Visit FloWave on Doors Open Day

This autumn we are pleased to once again welcome the public into the FloWave wave and tidal research facility at King’s Buildings on Saturday 27th September. Individuals and groups can visit the FloWave facility, the first of its kind globally and the world’s most sophisticated ocean simulator.

The facility will be staffed by FloWave and University volunteers and will be open from 09:45 in the morning until close at 16:15, (last entry at 16:00). There will be no entry to the facility on Sunday.

Unlike the 2013 running of this event when we still had to comply with building site regulations, there is no need to book in advance and entry will be unticketed. We will however control numbers within the building to a manageable number for safety, and we would appreciate taking your name and contact details for reporting purposes and if you are interested to hear from us in the future.

Many thanks and we look forward to seeing you on the day!

More information about the FloWave Ocean Energy Research Facility

The FloWave Ocean Energy Research Facility houses a 25 metre circular pool that can recreate complex waves and fast currents for offshore project sites around the world.

Able to replicate normal, challenging and extreme events at scale within its fully instrumented circular test tank, the FloWave Ocean Energy Research Facility enables industry and academia to refine concepts, improve performance, and de-risk designs in a fully controllable and safe way at relatively low cost – designs can be refined behind closed doors at FloWave and deployed ‘right first time’ in the ocean, saving both money and time, and potentially reputation too.

The first and only one of its kind in the world, FloWave joins EMEC as a major global infrastructure asset for testing offshore renewable energy technologies, and will be a vital tool to help engineers harness the power of the sea.
